On the occasion of International Women’s Day, global pharma major Lupin Limited (Lupin) hosted an informative Facebook Live session as a part of their Shakti campaign designed to empower women in their fight against heart disease. The session was organized to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease among women and to encourage more physician-patient interactions on the subject.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajeev Sibal, President – India Region Formulations, Lupin said, “Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among women today. With timely intervention it can be prevented and that is our goal. Research shows that the death rate of cardiovascular diseases for women is higher compared to men. Yet the risk of heart diseases in women is still under-diagnosed and under-treated. Shakti is our initiative to empower women in their fight against heart disease and make their health a priority.”
The event also had three eminent cardiologists, Dr. Roxana Mehran from Mount Sinai, New York, Dr. Sarita Rao from Apollo Hospital, Indore and Dr. JPS Sawhney, from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi. They touched upon the need to have a structured awareness initiative for elevating awareness around a healthy heart amongst women. They emphasized on early detection and screening tests as a way of life.
Lupin had earlier announced Mary Kom as the brand ambassador for its Shakti campaign. Speaking about the event, six-time world boxing champion, Mary Kom said, “Women are the backbone of society. They play multiple roles every day, right from taking care of their families to supporting them emotionally and financially. But in the process, they often forget to take care of their own health. I am delighted to be a part of this campaign. I hope together we will be able to motivate more women to take better care of their heart health and lead longer lives with their loved ones.”
The Facebook live session was attended by thousands of viewers from around the world.Lupin’s Shakti campaign has been promoting awareness on heart diseases in women and has reached out to over 42,000 individuals and 10,000 healthcare professionals through interactive social media sessions, sharing informative videos from doctors, and in-clinic awareness activities.
