Chandigarh, April 05, 2021 :

In a ground-breaking procedure, leading Haematologists and Bone Marrow Transplant specialists, successfully treated Mrs. Raj Kapahi, a 62-year-old woman from Jammu, suffering from Multiple Myeloma from the past 10 years with bone marrow transplant. Mrs Kapahi , who is back to his normal routine life and living a healthy life. The innovative treatment approach for Myeloma Treatment may open the door to the complete cure of Myeloma.

Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a type of cancer which arises from plasma cells. When these cells start dividing uncontrollably and spread abnormally in the body, it leads to the disease called multiple myeloma. Myeloma Myeloma can present with various symptoms. It can be unexplained renal failure other common symptoms could be back pain with broken bones as well as long term anemia, fatigue and infections in the urine.

Dr Rahul Bhargava and team performed an autologous bone marrow transplant where they used Mrs. Raj Kapahi own cells for transplant, thereby reducing the chances of rejection and infections.

Dr Rahul Bhargava, Director, Institute of Blood Disorders situated at Fortis Hospital Gurugram says  “ Myeloma few years back was a non-curable disorder, with the advancements in newer therapies and new drugs coming into the market, is promising an operational cure and  control for the long term. The survival is further increased by doing the bone marrow transplant in these patients, which is not so expensive these days and requires patient to stay for around 10 days in hospital. In this case, when Mrs. Raj Kapahi  approached us, she was entirely dependent on others for his basic needs. But within six months after the treatment, she is back on his legs and is carrying on with his normal life,”

” Mrs. Raj Kapahi, after her successful  treatment said “Life with Myeloma was very difficult, but now I feel I have got my life back and now I live a normal life without any complications related to my disease . I am very thankful to Dr Rahul Bhargava and team, who treated me miraculously. I can’t thank them enough for what they did for me and giving me a new life,”

Dr Rahul Bhargava further says “ If Multiple Myeloma is diagnosed at early stage, the survival is longer. Medications are no longer expensive as well as does not cause hair loss, diarrhoea and nausea. Myeloma treatment medications are now slowly moving from Intravenous to subcutaneous, like a jab for an insulin injection and along with oral medications which are making the life very easy for patients to live with myeloma

With BMT coming as a promising treatment option for Multiple Myeloma, chances are, in near future the disease will no longer be dreaded as non-curable. This will give hope to thousands of young Myeloma patients across the country to once again live a normal life.
