Chandigarh, May 18, 2022:

The Indian Association of Gynecological Endoscopists (IAGE) and the Kanpur Abstagne Society, in their annual convention organized in the city, today Honored Kamal Narayan Omar, for his contribution in spreading health awareness across the country.

Kamal, who originally hails from Kanpur, completed his education in journalism from Kanpur and started his career with the city’s Hindustan Times edition. He is the founder and CEO of the New Delhi-based advocacy think tank ‘Integrated Health and Wellbeing (IHW) Council’.

The recognition by IAGE was jointly handed over by the Speaker of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Satish Mahana and Minister of State for Women Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition of Uttar Pradesh, Mrs. Pratibha Shukla, in the presence of eminent gynecologists.  Kanpur Mayor Smt. Pramila Pandey was also present on the occasion. This year’s conference of IAGE focused on the theme of ‘Women Empowerment through Women Health’.

Dr Meera Agnihotri, the Convener of the program and Senior Professor at Kanpur Medical College remarked “It is a matter of pride for all the doctors of Uttar Pradesh that Kamal Narayan who has lit the flame of health awareness in the whole country, hails from our state. He has been significantly working on creating awareness around prevention and support of women and pediatric diseases. IHW Council’s initiatives such as Shapath1000 Days and Janani Women Health Helpline which works in five languages have made commendable impact across the country.”

Kamal Narayan is a well-known health campaigner in the country and has been working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations through the IHW Council’s endeavour’s focusing on clean water, clean air, balanced diet and proper health facilities for all, all the while engaging with major stakeholders including the government, medical community as well as other relevant sectors.

Accepting the honour, Narayan said, “Healthy citizens make a strong country. Today our people are battling with all kinds of diseases and the conditions that cause them. Women’s health is the foundation of a healthy family but even today their health and nutrition are neglected. This is the reason why every woman, whether in the city or in the villages, is suffering from anemia and it continues to be caught in the vicious cycle of malnourished children and sick adults.”

“Through IHW Council’s intervention we are continuously fighting against Anemia, Malnutrition, Menstrual Problems, Women’s Sexual Health and Mental Health Challenges and our ‘Shapath 1000 Days’  campaign is continuously empowering women by organizing awareness drives, providing support and organizing health camps across the country”.

It is noteworthy that on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi, IHW Council has called for celebrating May as National Health Awareness Month while flag starting  the campaign #MayForHealth. The Council has been organizing awareness drives, summits and camps focusing on health awareness and co-operation with all its partners across the country.
