Mumbai/ New Delhi, July 29, 2021 :

Amid the pandemic, many Good Samaritans have come forward to help the Covid-affected in their own little ways. These touching acts of kindness by organisations and individuals have helped many amid these challenging times. In one such gesture of compassion, Life Wins Foundation (LWF), a charity organization that works on the ground with doctors and healthcare professionals in the field of Cancer Care for the underprivileged, decided to come forward and extend necessary support to the community.

Life Wins Foundation mobilized funds and donations in kind of around 30 lakhs to overcome severe deficiency and shortage of oxygen and other medical supplies. They arranged for oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, BiPAP machines, ICU Monitors, fogging machines, vital sign monitors – Pulse Oxy-meters, thermometers, essential medicare kit like Gloves, N95 masks, surgical masks etc for rural healthcare centres and needy patients.

Praveen Johri, Trustee of Life Wins Foundation along with his friend Sanjeeva Shivesh started the campaign to help India breathe easy – Covid Loses Life Wins. Through the support of friends, family, well wishers, the foundation could collect funds for Covid relief. After that they got 20 Oxygen concentrators and 25,000 N95 masks from Tata Memorial Centre sent by TMC Navya.TMC Navya was established as the online arm of Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) in 2014 to scale access to cancer expertise.

While the crisis was visible largely in metros & other major cities, people in lower-income groups had not been able to access much healthcare support especially in rural areas. Hence LWF identified beneficiaries in tier 2/3/4 cities and rural areas.  From the interiors of Hajipur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Patna in Bihar; Chiplun, Khed, Kolhapur in Maharashtra; Kanpur , Banda, Mirzapur, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and many more patients were benefited from this much needed medical relief. They also identified domestic & global suppliers to ensure supplies reach them within short notice. The foundation worked with various stakeholders to ensure execution of on-ground efforts seamlessly in remote locations and rural belts.

“The second surge of Covid-19 required an immediate response as the population at the bottom of our social pyramid had suffered the most due to a lack of medical facilities and Infrastructure. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Cranfield University Alumni, Tata Memorial Center, TMC Navya & other well wishers for supporting us wholeheartedly and standing in solidarity with us against Covid-19.” said Shomali Johri, Co-Founder, Life Wins Foundation.

“These are exceptionally challenging times, but we feel confident that as a community, we can get through this together. We did and will keep doing every bit to help the needy. We could garnier the support for the campaign due to the trust and confidence shown by our donors. I would like to request everyone to extend help to the less privileged in such difficult times.  Together we can…and we will,” said Manju Mulchandani, Co-Founder, Life Wins Foundation.

We are immensely grateful and deeply appreciate the unrelenting & compassionate efforts by the frontline workers, medical staff in the current challenging scenario. While the doctors and hospitals are doing everything, they can to save precious lives, the country also needs an immediate and coordinated response from every individual to render whatever help they can, said  Sanjeeva Shivesh, Cranfield University Alumni who helped to raise the fund for the foundation and support the cause.

Here’s what receiving centres have to say

“We have received oxygen concentrators which were very helpful for our Covid patients. We are grateful to Life Wins Foundation and thank them for their kind gesture, said Dr. Ranjit Kumar, Chief Medical Superintendent, East Central Railway, Danapur, Patna.

The country needs coordinated response from everyone to render whatever help they can in the current scenario. We deeply appreciate the efforts of Life Wins Foundation which took upon the onus of rendering social responsibilities and did a great job enabling organizations carrying out relief and support work when it mattered, said Dr. Anil Kumar Singhal, Chief Medical Officer, BEST, Mumbai.

The second wave has taught us valuable lessons. There is no doubt that the grit and resilience shown by the civil society crusaders against COVID-19 is paramount. Though we are yet to see the end of the pandemic, it is key that the civil society organisations collaborate with the government in a constructive and meaningful way to build back better, and enhance India’s preparedness to face any threat on the development of its society and people.
