Over 450 people trained in the life saving technique of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

February 22, 2020

“The camp was organized at the Delhi Pharmaceuticals Sciences and Research University and a health check up was also conducted for all”

New Delhi, February 22, 2020:

The Heart Care Foundation of India (HCFI), a leading national NGO, recently organized CPR 10 training and health camp at the Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, Mehrauli. Over 450 people attended the camp where they were also screened for vital health parameters such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and ECG.

Over 10 trainers were present at the camp along with Padma Shri Awardee Dr KK Aggarwal, President, HCFI and Confederation of the Medical Associations of Asia and Oceania (CMAAO). Apart from the health check-ups, people were also made aware of the need for preventive care in winters to avert heart-related complications.

Speaking about this, Dr K K Aggarwal, said, “Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the most crucial and basic procedure to save a life in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. Learning this technique amounts to real voluntary work as doctors may not be able to reach the victim within the first 10 minutes. It, therefore, becomes the duty and responsibility of bystanders to save lives. The two pillars of community service include meaningful engagement and mindful participation. Learning the basics of CPR is community service at its best as it can help avert mortality through timely assistance, before medical help arrives.”

Adding further, Dr Aggarwal, said, “In numerological terms, CPR equates to number 10. In English alphabets, ‘C’ comes at number ‘3’, ‘P’ comes at number ‘16’ and ‘R’ comes at number ‘18’. Adding the three, that is, C=3, P=16, R=18 (3 + 16 + 18 = 37) and, further the two digits in ‘3 + 7’, the total comes to ‘10’. So, ‘CPR 10’ should be an effective way to remember.”

The CPR 10 Mantra is as follows: Within 10 minutes of cardiac arrest (earlier the better) for the next 10 minutes at least, compress the centre of the chest with a speed of 100 compressions per minute (10×10)”. CPR 10 is easy to learn and easy to do and one does not need to be a doctor or be certified in this technique to do CPR.
