New Delhi, March 08, 2021:

A woman’s body goes through many changes in different stages of her lifespan. Each stage has a significant variation that have a direct impact on her health. From periods to pregnancy to menopause, there are a number of myths around women’s health, as there is less clarity or awareness about the real facts. Keeping these aspects in mind, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Columbia Asia Hospital Hebbal, Whitefield and Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur organized a campaign around the theme #MyChoiceIsMe and #SpeakToCare to generate awareness on the common problems faced by women which are less spoken about.

The campaign included activities on busting the myth around women’s health and focused on the issues women do not talk about and how to overcome them.

The event was celebrated by spreading beautiful purple carpet for both the patients, attendants as well as female employees of the hospital. Also, “Burst the Myth” activity was organised where female patients who visited the hospital burst the purple balloons which had small chits highlighting the myths around women’s health in them. The colour purple being the official colour of International Women’s Day which signifies justice and dignity, the event marked the importance that should be given for women’s health.

Here is a glimpse of few myths and facts associated with women’s health:

Myths Facts

·       Cancer is incurable

·       Routine checks are necessary only if one has symptoms

·       Breast cancer can be detected only if one has lump

·       Tiredness or fatigue is a part of life

·       If the pain is severe, talk to your doctor. It can be treated

·       Cancer is treatable if detected early Mammogram and pap smear are screening tests for cancer

·       Routine checks aid in early detection and treatment of diseases

·       A foul odour can be due to infections that are treatable

·       STDs get transmitted through unprotected sex

·       Regular checkup in pregnancy helps detect problems in the mother and baby

·       Breast lumps may be benign or cancerous. Get it checked.

·       It could be because of Anaemia which causes many diseases silently. A balanced diet is the answer

Moreover, the campaign also included a strong message on the importance of women to talk about their health openly and more often. Women who have any health issues or concerns can give a missed call to 08061656262 and the experts will give them a solution or encourage them to go for a check-up at Columbia Asia Hospitals.

The campaign focused on women health issues such as menstruation, breast cancer, vaginal infections, STDs, pregnancy and infertility.

Among women, early warning signs are often missed and risk factors are ignored because they are not talked about quite often. There are a number of instances where women skip preventative health exams such as blood pressure screenings and yearly check-ups, which means they are not getting important advice from their doctors. This may be due to fear, embarrassment, stigma, or even since it is low on their list of things to do. However, talking to the doctor about their health are simple ways of proactively catching hold of an issue before it becomes a problem.
