The 26th MTNL Perfect Health Mela closed on a successful note

The curtain came down on the 26th Perfect Health Mela yesterday with the valedictory ceremony and the HCFI Awards that were presented in the categories of media and journalism, CSR and community service, health education and patient well-being.

The three-day event was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi with the theme “Fit Delhi, Fit India”.

The inaugural day was graced by several eminent personalities such as Shri CK Khanna, Acting President BCCI, Ms. Meenakshi Datta Ghosh IAS, Co-Chair HCFI Round Table on Health & Wellness Building Consensus; Shri Satish Upadhyay Former Chairman Education SDMC; Shri Bejon Misra, International Consumer Policy expert; Dr. Girish Tyagi, President, Delhi Medical Association; Ms. Richa Bharti, Consultant Media & Communications, Ministry of Health, GOI; Prof. Dr. Monica Chaudhry, Director, School of Health Sciences, Ansal University and Dr. Nisha Mendiratta, Associate Head, Splice, Department of Science and Technology (DST), GOI.

‘Harmony and EcoFest’ (inter-school competitions), Youth Fest (inter-college competitions) and Anmol (for specially-abled children) were held for schools and colleges over the three days of the Mela. Among the various on-the-spot competitions organized were choreography, skit, painting, collage making, instrumental fusion melodies, slogan and poster making, Nukkad Natak, Create out of Waste, Fashion Show, Western Dance, model demonstration. More than 5000 children from various schools and colleges participated enthusiastically in these activities, which focused on themes such as personal hygiene, harm reduction, fitness and exercise. There were lifestyle exhibitions, free health check-ups and consultations with all pathies under one roof, lectures, and workshops.

The highlights of the Mela were the Laughter Show organized along with Laughter Yoga International; a special science show Science behind MiraclesBollywood night by famous singer Shibani Kashyap and Dandiya night by LokUtsav. A Bhangra performance was held as part of open dance competition on the culminating day of the Mela.

A one-of-its-kind spiritual inter-faith conference on Harm Reduction was also organized with eminent dharma gurus as speakers.

A survey on Happiness Index is being conducted over the three days of the event. Another special activity was a free Diabetes Check-up camp in memory of Shri Arun Jaitley; 1000 people were tested for HbA1c free of cost.

A special campaign on antibiotic resistance was launched in association with the World Health Organization.

Participants and visitors were trained in the life saving technique of CPR 10, hands-only CPR under the Chiranjeev Hriday programme of Medtronic India.

This year the Mela was organized by HCFI jointly with Dept. of Health Delhi Government, DST and other central and Delhi government departments. Leading brands including personal and fabric hygiene brand Fena, restaurant chain Imperfecto, educational institute Ansal University, medical device company Medtronic, Coca Cola, LIC and other organizations supported the Mela.

Started in 1993, the Perfect Health Mela is the annual flagship event of the Heart Care Foundation of India (HCFI). It has been conceptualized as a one-of-a-kind event that uses entertainment as a means of creating awareness on relevant health issues among the general public.

I am extremely happy to see students participate enthusiastically in huge numbers in the competitions.
