“Columbia Asia Hospital, Palam Vihar organised a parent craft activity to educate the parents on safe maternity during COVID Pandemic and the best ways for taking care of the new-born child.”

New Delhi, September 21, 2021:

More than 15 couples attended this parent craft activity. During the session, Dr. Sharmila Solanki, Consultant – Gynaecology & Obstetrics explained about the best practices an expecting mother should follow during pregnancy and a Lamaze class for the parents was organised post Dr Solanki’s session. After the Lamaze class, Dr Shalini, Executive Diectician took an education session on healthy diet tips for expecting mothers. The activity came to an end with a counselling session by Dr. Anil, Consultant Pediatrics on how to take care of new-born child and on how to follow proper lactation tips.

The expecting mothers and new parents shared concerns with regards to pregnancy and childbirth. The most pressing concerns were around the labour pain, the best diet to follow, and how to take care of the new baby. The participants also shared concerns around visit the hospital for regular check-ups due to the fear of contracting COVID, but our team of doctors gave them the confidence that the hospital is completely safe, and the expecting parents should not worry while visiting the hospital and they must also ensure that they follow the safety guidelines set by the Government.

The aim for conducting these sessions was to educate the new parents on how to reduce the substantial weight of risks and injuries that women and their babies face when getting unsafe care during childbirth. The problem has aggravated due to COVID-19 epidemic, which has interrupted the key health services due to supply chain failures, women’s inability to get care, and a shortage of skilled health personnel.
